Jimmie Durnil explained there is over $2,000 in Park Recreation and Materials. A bill for $1,800 for materials needed for installation of the wainscoting at old Town Hall is pending. Money can be transferred out of Electricity when needed and there is $10,000 in the Heritage Trail and Town Improvements Funds. They’re in the process of getting bids to remove the wall in old Town Hall. If they’re able to remove the wall this year there should be sufficient funds to finish 2017. Has anyone heard who is going to take care of the flowers at the gateways on State Road 46? He will ask Sandra Hash if the Chamber of Commerce is going to take care of the flowers.
Holly Nethery asked Mr. Hight to speak and he is busy. She has asked Jim Garrett, an Army veteran, to speak and is waiting to hear back from him. Ms. Nethery proposed an essay contest as part of the Memorial Day program with the goals of getting the community involved and raising awareness of what Memorial Day is all about. The contest will be open to grades one through twelve with one winner chosen from grades one to six and one from grades seven to twelve. The essay theme is the true meaning of Memorial Day. Essays are to be 500 to 750 words and the deadline is April 30, 2017. The essays will be emailed to Parks Board members for review prior to the May meeting. The rules will require the winning authors to give up all rights to their essays so they can be reprinted and edited for spelling, punctuation and grammar at the discretion of the Parks Board. Winners will receive recognition, reading of their essays at the Memorial Day program, publication of their essays in The Ellettsville Journal, free jump passes from Urban Air, gift certificates from the Heritage Trail Cafe and she will continue to solicit donations from area businesses. Children of members of the Parks Board are not permitted to participate. Ms. Nethery will provide contest information to all schools in Ellettsville.
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion indicating approval of the contest so Ms. Nethery can continue with it. Carolyn Hoobyar made a motion to accept her proposal. Amy Slabaugh seconded. Mr. Durnil thanked Ms. Nethery for her efforts. A vote was taken on the motion. Motion carried.
Jimmie Durnil provided an update for old Town Hall. He acquired desks and tables no longer needed by the Town for use at the Ellettsville museum. The concrete floor is finished and because it has been sealed it should not be damaged if flooding occurs.
