2006 Budget

Jeff presented the changes that the Town Council made to the Parks budget. The amount on the Secretary line for $1,200 was removed, the Part-Time Laborer was reduced to $7,300, Materials went down to $1,900, the amount for Stone was taken out, Legal Services was removed and Community Support was removed. This made the total 2006 budget for the Parks $14,712.49 which is $4,707.98 less than 2005.

Shelter House Rental

Amber explained that the Town Council has some concerns about the Shelter House Rental. They want to know who will enforce the rental policy if a problem develops and what time frame the rental is effective for. Jeff stated he didnít understand why the police wonít enforce the rental policy if there is a problem. Jeff will check with the City of Bloomington and find out how they handle rentals of shelter houses and who enforces the policy if there is a problem.

Visit to West Boggs Park

Jeff Frownfelter and L.D. Axsom went to West Boggs Park on July 23, 2005 and toured the property. The trails used for the golf carts werenít blacktop, they were just gravel and were fairly easy to maintain. They have numerous shelter houses and picnic tables. L.D. said they spend their efforts on what people CAN do, not what they CANíT do. Jeff commented that Boggs hosts activities to bring people out, such as water-gun fights on hot days. It doesnít necessarily generate any revenue, but brings people out and raises awareness and promotes use of the parks. L.D. suggests we look for ways to increase income or find money elsewhere. L.D. stated the Mike Axsom would be willing to consult with Ellettsvilleís Parks board and apply for grants and only take pay from the grant money that is awarded. Edwin asked about the status of sending the Master Plan to the State to be approved in order to apply for grants. Jeff will find out.

Jeff reminded the board that the House of Prayer will be using the Park facilities on October 8. He left a message with them about the possibility of construction.
