The Ellettsville Parks Board met in a regular meeting on Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Town Hall Meeting Room located at 1050 W. Guy McCown Drive. Jimmie Durnil called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Members in Attendance
Present were Jimmie Durnil, President; Holly Nethery, Vice President; Claudetta Kelly, Secretary; Carol Hoobyar and Amy Slabaugh.
Approval of Minutes
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to approve the minutes. Holly Nethery made a motion to approve the minutes. Amy Slabaugh seconded. Motion carried.
Jimmie Durnil advised there were no changes. He has obtained a building permit for removal of the wall which should be done in two to three months.
Jimmie Durnil thanked Ms. Nethery for her efforts in organizing the Memorial Service, it was really nice.
Jimmie Durnil mentioned Lloyd Dewar, O.D. has installed a bench at Memorial Park.
Jimmie Durnil introduced Kent Stone and Collin Stone. Collin Stone requested approval to relocate the Chief Little Turtle Monument from Turning Point Apostolic Church to the Heritage Trail for an Eagle Scout Project. In front of the monument the Boy Scouts will place a stone turtle. They will dig down 4” to 5”, put landscaping fabric down and place flat stones for a walkway to the Chief Little Turtle Monument and the stone turtle. The monument will be 12’ from the Trail and flat rocks will be placed around it. They’ll clear 60 yards of vegetation from around the creek. Six flowering shrubs will be placed directly behind the monument. Ms. Slabaugh asked where it will be located. Mr. Durnil answered people will be able to see the monument from the church. Ms. Nethery asked what maintenance will be required for the flowering shrubs. Mr. Stone answered he is uncertain but they won’t be too large. Holly Nethery advised one of the Memorial Day essay contest winners, Matthew, is really interested in community service. If there is anyway the Park Board could use his help, please let him know.
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting. Holly Nethery made a motion to adjourn. Amy Slabaugh seconded. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
