Approval of Minutes
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to accept the minutes from last month’s meeting as approved and signed. Holly Nethery made a motion to accept the minutes. Amy Slabaugh seconded. Motion carried.
Jimmie Durnil explained $36,000 was the balance as of January 1, 2016. A lot of money has been expended this year for the wall and other things. The balance is $24,000 and they have appropriated $6,567.
Jimmie Durnil advised two new flood lights were installed at the upper shelter house to illuminate the play area and a good portion of the hill. A third flood light has been purchased and it will illuminate the other wall. The Ellettsville Police Department has been asking children to leave the park at dark. He will talk to Sandra Hash and Denise Line about a proposal to close the parks at dark. All agreed. Ms. Nethery advised the park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. If the hours are changed then the sign will have to be changed accordingly. Mr. Durnil stated there was damage to the park in the spring and summer and damage to the restrooms the last day they were open.
Jimmie Durnil has been checking lights at the Memorial Park and they all seem to be working but someone is messing with the switches because they get turned off. Eight new lights have been installed on Heritage Trail and they look nice from the road. They’ve ordered one more flood light and two replacement lights that will be paid from REMC funds.
Jimmie Durnil has indicated to Chris Fisher of Main Street the Park Board will allow them to use Old Town Hall for Santa on Sale Street. Main Street will help with blocking off walls and restrooms.
Jimmie Durnil stated a restoration plan for Old Town Hall needs to be prepared for Cook, Inc. so they can determine if they would be interested in restoring the building. He will contact Rose-Hulman and ask if they have a student who would be interested in doing a restoration plan. They’re still looking for pictures of the inside of the bank. Cook would want to restore it to the original building. Mike Farmer has estimated it will cost approximately $4,000 to $5,000 to remodel the building and the Parks Board and Utilities each paying half.
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting. Holly Nethery made a motion to adjourn. Amy Slabaugh seconded. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 5:37 p.m.
