The Ellettsville Parks Board met in a regular meeting on Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Ellettsville Fire Department Training and Conference Room, 5080 West State Road 46, Bloomington, Indiana. Jimmy Durnil called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance
Jimmie Durnil led the Board in the Pledge.
Members in Attendance
Jimmie Durnil, Claudetta Kelly, Richard Pease and Geraldine McIntyre. Amy Slabaugh was absent.
Approval of Minutes
Geraldine McIntyre made a motion to approve the minutes of September 3, 2013. Richard Pease seconded. Motion carried.
Review of Accounts Payable Expenditures
Jimmie Durnil explained they have a balance of $23,843. There was income received from property taxes and electric of $18 was paid.
Jimmie Durnil is requesting permission for him and Amy Slabaugh to get estimates on park benches. At the Fall Festival there were four or five park benches that had some type of advertising. One said “Monroe County Fair Board.” He would like a sign that says “Provided by Ellettsville Parks Board.” He is requesting permission to spend $800 to $1,000 on two benches. Richard Pease so moved. Geraldine McIntyre seconded. Motion carried.
Jimmie Durnil advised the School Board has straightened out the easement problem at Wishing Well Park.
Privilege of the Floor
Jimmie Durnil introduced Anthony Sparks from Boy Scout Troop 119 who is working on his Eagle Scout.
Anthony Sparks explained he is attending the meeting to get his Eagle Scout project approved. He wants to put in 18 posts with a plaque on top at Wishing Well Park. The post would be a 4” x 4” with a plaque on top measuring 9” x 12” under Plexiglas. The plaques will have facts about native plants and history of the park. They will also have direction arrows. There will be no cost to the Town. He should finish with the Eagle Scout process by next spring. The Troop will be setting the posts and he will be in charge. Ms. Moran knows he is going to do this and approves.
Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion for approval of Anthony Sparks’ project for the Wishing Well Park area. Geraldine McIntyre made a motion to approve Anthony Sparks’ Eagle Scout Troop presentation. Richard Pease seconded.
Jimmie Durnil asked who will be in charge of keeping track of them to make sure they haven’t been damaged. Mr. Sparks replied he will talk to his Scout Master. Mr. Durnil asked who is making the plaques. Mr. Sparks answered it will be a sheet of paper under Plexiglas.
After the discussion, a vote was taken on the outstanding motion. Motion carried.
Geraldine McIntyre made a motion to adjourn. Richard Pease seconded. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
