The Ellettsville Parks Board met in a regular meeting on Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Town Hall Meeting Room located at 1150 W. Guy McCown Drive.Jimmie Durnil called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Members in Attendance

Present were Jimmie Durnil, President; Holly Nethery, Vice President; Claudetta Kelly, Secretary; and Carol Hoobyar.Amy Slabaugh was absent.

 

There was a moment of silence for the victims of the shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

Approval of Minutes

Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to approve the minutes.Holly Nethery made a motion to approve the minutes.Carol Hoobyar seconded.Motion carried.

 

Accounts Payable

Jimmie Durnil stated the expenditures are good.The 2018 budget has been reduced because of spending money this year.

 

Old Business

Jimmie Durnil explained the work in Old Town Hall is finished.They will coordinate with Tiffany Willingham to start getting things into the building.There is one bill remaining from redoing the floor because of a case from the old Ellettsville History building scratched the floor terribly.Jim Davis has Richland Township maps from the mid-1920s and 1930s that will hang in Old Town Hall.

 

Holly Nethery has been advised from Fire Chief Mike Cornman that smoking is allowed in the parks and they canít stop people from doing so if it is outdoors.†† Mr. Durnil commented they have put up ďno-smokingĒ signs.†† Ms. Hoobyar suggested going before Town Council to have it changed.All agreed.Ms. Nethery asked if smoking is allowed do they have to provide ash trays.Mr. Durnil commented then someone has to empty the ash trays.

 

Jimmie Durnil stated the Parks Board didnít have much to do with the Monroe County Fall Festival and thanked Holly Nethery for doing Education Day.

 

New Business

Holly Nethery asked when the Petersí property might be turned into a parking lot.Mr. Durnil answered it is to happen at the meeting on October 10, 2017.Leasa Siscoe is applying for a grant for the parking area.It may not get done this year.Ms. Nethery was talking to Krista Vanegas and she would like to have events such as Trick-or-Treat, an Easter Egg Hunt or incorporate it into Santa on Sales Street.Ms. Nethery explained to Ms. Vanegas the Parks Board didnít have the manpower to do an event but it she wanted to head something up she would be happy to help.She also told Ms. Vanegas she may want to wait until they have the parking area and garage set up so it is usable.

 

Carol Hoobyar mentioned when they toured Old Town Hall they discussed doing something during Santa on Sales Street.Mr. Durnil would like to have exhibits available at that time.Ms. Hoobyar asked what would draw people to Old Town Hall.Ms. Nethery answered other businesses will have things going on such as Thurmanís Body Shop has hot chocolate.Do they want to do something for children?Ms. Hoobyar thinks children should be with parents when they come into Old Town Hall.They could have candy canes or something else available.Ms. Nethery will send a message to Chris Fisher telling her the Parks Board would like to be involved.Ms. Hoobyar suggested having a drawing to give something away to get adults into the building.Ms. Kelly thinks items need to be protected at the Ellettsville History Center.There was a lengthy discussion on opening Old Town Hall during Santa on Sales Street and The Ellettsville Journal office closing.

Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting.Holly Nethery made a motion.Carol Hoobyar seconded. Motion carried.The meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
