March 5, 2018

The Ellettsville Parks Board met in a regular meeting on Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Town Hall Meeting Room located at 1150 W. Guy McCown Drive.  Jimmie Durnil called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Members in Attendance

Present were Jimmie Durnil, President; Holly Nethery, Vice President; Carol Hoobyar and Amy Slabaugh.  Claudetta Kelly was absent.

Approval of Minutes

Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to approve the minutes of January 2018.  Holly Nethery made a motion to approve the January minutes.  Carol Hoobyar seconded.  Motion carried.

Accounts Payable

Jimmie Durnil reviewed Accounts Payable.  There is $9,000 in their fund and their budget is $10,000 which includes $2,500 for Heritage Trail Improvements, $3,187 for Electric and $4,371 for Parks and Recreation Materials.  There has been damage to the slides at Campbell’s Park.  In 1999, the equipment cost $18,000.  Ms. Nethery asked if they’re replacing it.  Mr. Durnil answered they will replace a section.  The equipment has been blocked off so it can’t be used.

Old Business

Holly Nethery spoke with Tiffany Willingham about using Old Town Hall as a meeting place but there are historical items in the building.  Ms. Willingham is in the process of working with the Monroe County History Center to share things or learn the preservation process.  She would like for someone on the Parks Board to takeover some of the work.  Ms. Slabaugh requested clarification.  Ms. Nethery explained Ms. Willingham is in the process of working with Monroe County History Center to learn about preservation.  Eventually Ms. Willingham would like for someone on the Parks Board to take over working with the Monroe County History Center.  Ms. Slabaugh asked if there is a separation between Monroe County and Ellettsville items.  Ms. Nethery does not know.  Ms. Slabaugh stated they’ve added photos and Monroe County History Center has put items in Old Town Hall.  She is uncertain as to the relationship between the Parks Board and the Ellettsville Museum Board.  Ms. Nethery suggested they have something in writing.  Mr. Durnil advised Main Street is working on a lot of photos from The Ellettsville Journal and they gave the Parks Board a lot of things from their building.  He and Leah Fiegle clean the building and rugs for the doors have been ordered.  Ms. Nethery asked for a consensus on using Old Town Hall as a meeting place.  Mr. Durnil answered they shouldn’t use it for a meeting place at this time.  Extra chairs for events have been purchased.

New Business

Holly Nethery is planning the ceremony for Memorial Day.  Sarah Cassidy will perform.  She wants to do an essay contest and make it more local.  The essay topic would be to find a Hoosier who died in the line of duty and write about them.  There was a discussion on asking Sergeant First Class Sammy Davis, USA Retired, of Freedom, to be the keynote speaker.

Jimmie Durnil advised the Monroe County Public Library will fund the material for the lighting in Memorial Park.  If the Street and Utilities Departments do the labor, there may be enough money left to repair the sidewalk by Vine Street.  The lighting removed from Memorial Park will be set around the Police Department.

Jimmie Durnil advised they’re still having issues with post lights on the Heritage Trail.

Jimmie Durnil announced the next meeting will be on Monday, April 2, 2018.

Jimmie Durnil entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Holly Nethery made a motion to adjourn.  Carol Hoobyar seconded.  Motion carried.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:46 p.m.
